WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT SUPERINTENDENT PHILLIP’S
PROPOSAL
Let’s move 6th graders back to elementary schools, absolutely.
Instead, convert Tubman, Whitaker and Ockley Green to junior high
schools 7th, 8th, & 9th grades. Retain all 8th graders at the
schools they are currently attending; so that their 9th year, 2005-06,
will be in the new junior high school. Jefferson High then becomes
a senior high school 10th, 11th, & 12th grades.
If you must redraw elementary school boundaries, transfer additional
students into these smaller schools to better balance and lower
populations of schools where there are more than 300 students.
Give them a chance at better academics by allowing them to attend
smaller schools.
I also applaud Superintendent Phillips for her recent firing of
three senior administrators. This move looks to save the district
$353,779. These three never taught one student. $353,779 that’s
more than 10 classroom teacher salaries.
DISEMBOWELING OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS NOT THE WAY TO FIX
THE BUDGET. There is enough money to run this district
without shortening the calendar or the school day, without cutting
back on classroom teachers, and without closing schools.
Watch this site for more data that reveals the Cost to Close the
Schools, the Cost to Create Schools vs. the Value of these schools
in terms of community value and real property value.
